Do I need a wedding video?

Wedding photography and videography serve two very different purposes. Having a collection of images to many couples seems priceless. Like other wedding vendors videographers do come with a similar price tag. So, you’re wondering if hiring a wedding videographer is worth your budget. I am here to lay out exactly what’s included in a video package and why it may be worth it to you and your significant other.

What’s included in a video package?

Wedding videography packages can vary greatly in both what you get and what you pay for, so it is important to do your research and ask questions to find the vendor and package that best suits your style and budget. The more hours of coverage, individual videos, editing, and camera operators, the more expensive the package. Either they offer full day coverage or by the hour but the videographer is usually thee after or about the same time as the photographer. It will also matter which type of film you are looking to have. A documentary film style will require more time the videographer is there so keep that in mind. Most videographer will offer a highlight reel. Your videographer will go through all those hours of footage to select and trim the magic moments and turn them into a short, cinematic-like trailer, sometimes called a teaser, for your easy viewing. This is the video you’ll likely share on social media, as it’s typically under 10 minutes.

Why hire a Videographer?

Now, you know what your going to get. Now, lets talk about why you need it. One bride explained it to me like this; “when Facebook started showing us our past post as memories I absolutely LOVED seeing those. After awhile you forget some of the details of an event and seeing that quick video I took with my friends 6 years ago throws me back to that moment.”. Brides sometimes don’t get to see everything in their wedding day because of the constant talking to relatives, thanking people for coming, the pictures. Videographers capture all the little details the brides doesn’t get to see. Brides always tell me that they feel like the day moved really fast. First thing they know hair and makeup is happening and boom, reception is over and we are doing the sparkler exit. When I return their video, they are very surprised at all the details the didn’t notice!

If you’re on the fence about it, or you’re not sure you want to spend the money, I would definitely still recommend it. Try looking at it like an insurance policy. You may not watch it all the time, but it’s there if you need it.

A beautiful and professional photo can do wonders, but it won’t let you listen to your own voice reciting your vows. It won’t bring you back into the conversation you were having with your bridesmaids as you got your hair and makeup done together. It won’t let you hear the exchanges between your grandparents and parents during cocktail hour.

A film will do that.
